PHOTOGRAPHED MEMORY

I was watching Natgeo's Test your brain : Memory episode last night and I couldn't help but remember this note I wrote a year ago. This note includes a picture of two old people walking away but their shadows otherwise show the true emotions of what their hearts really feel for each other.

According to Test your brain the duration of short term memory is believed to be in the order of seconds. Generally, it holds information for only 10-20 seconds. Items stored in our short term memory tend to be discarded fairly, rapidly however. It can normally holds approximately 7 pieces of information simultaneously and new data displaces whatever is already there. Ergo, short term memory is easily lost.

But memory in general, simply put as a mental activity of recalling information that we have learned or experienced.

Like this note.

It's nice to look back to those days when we felt pain. When we felt that we were losing gravity and when life wasn't being fair to us. And then we try to compare it to our present state, when we don't remember how it felt anymore, because we feel good - now, or needless to say we feel 'really' great - now. We pursued that path we sub-consciously avoided and here, now, as we start tracing that there-to-here-track, we take pride, head-high, wearing that sweet smile, thanking time for making it easy for us to heal and replace that old self with a new one, a better one I must say :)

We never really forget things or... people. Especially those that we have learned to memorize, may it be a face, a gesture, a voice, a laugh or even a smell, such things that don't need an expert to tell us that it is true or false. We may forget people by their names, or where they live or where we have first met them. Or whatever or however we may try to simply forget a person we did wrong or they to us, we just can't, we never can, because they've already become part of that billion neurons inside our brain, that one or couple of neurons that would try to sneak in once in awhile and make us remember them.

As for me, I just intend to smile. Though sometimes I'm an inch away to missing those little things again, I'd rather painstakingly draw my attention to those 'other little things' I'm trying to enjoy at the moment. Those will always remain as streaks and echoes I guess, a constant reminder of how bad life could be sometimes. Nevertheless, life knows how to make it up big time in a lot more ways than one :)

While in some of Test your brain's activities where I deliberately participated haha and surprisingly made few correct answers, it's a shock to realize that 'my memory doesn't really suck that much.' Yeah!!! Akala ko kasi malapit na kong maging goldfish, buti nalang!!! :)))
